This cultivar of the red hot poker is not found in the wild. Red hot pokers are members of the lily family.
Identification: Half the size of the natural plants,
this cultivar is 1½-2′ (45-60 cm) in height, and about
1-1½′ (30-45 cm) around.
Leaves are long and narrow, up to 1′ (30 cm) × ⅝″ (1.8 cm), like a tuft of grass.
Oval-shaped flowerheads form on a stalk at the center of each plant. They are composed of
hundreds of tubular flowers, typically entirely a coral red color, sometimes becoming more orange at the bottom.
As they flowers age, their tips open to reveal yellow tips.
The flowers are favorites of hummingbirds.
