Banksia ashbyi Baker f. Ashby’s banksia
Ashby's banksia is native to extreme Western Australia. Banksia is named after Sir Joseph Banks, an English botanist who participated in Captain Cook's great voyage (1768-1771). Ashbyi reflects ornithologist Edwin Ashby, who collected the plant and grew it in his South Australian garden. Identification: This is an easy plant to identify. In addition to the striking orange flowerheads, 7" (17 cm) high, the narrow, sharply sawtoothed leaves are distinctive. It reaches 12' (3.7 m). It's native range is the northern part of extreme Western Australia. It is not found in the wild in North America.
