Benthamidia japonica ‘Lustgarten Weeping’
Cornus kousa ‘Lustgarten Weeping’
Cornus kousa Hance subsp. kousa ‘Lustgarten Weeping’ Dogwood
A cultivar of dogwood available from many nurseries, but not found in the wild. (Cornus kousa, the original species, is native to Japan, North Korea, and China.) This cultivar is a "weeping" variety: smaller, more drooping. I'm not a big fan of weeping varieties; I guess I'm not the only one. But hey, I'm not even a serious gardener, so I don't necessarily get a vote. Here is a list of some common Cornus kousa cultivars. Identification: This weeping variety is closely related to C. kousa 'Elizabeth Lustgarten', producing arching branches 12-15' (3.7-4.6 m) up, sometimes cascading to the ground, with the tree reaching a width of about 10' (3 m). The shape is more domelike and shrublike than treelike. Blooms are cream-colored and profuse. Berries resemble strawberries. Edibility: Poisonous Online References:
