This cactus is native to western Argentina, and is not found in the wild in North America.
Identification: Plants consist of several cylindrical stems up
to 6½' (2 m) in height. Each stem is about 1¾-2" (5-6 cm) around, and has 10-15 ribs.
The spines along the sides occur in groups of 8-10, each ⅛-⅜" (4-10 mm) long. They are reddish
yellow when young, becoming whiter as they age. Flowers are white, up to 6" (15 cm) around and
up to 8" (20 cm) deep. The funnel-shaped portion of the outside of the flowers is hairy and
pink in color.
