About plant names...
Peppered moon lichen is native to North America and many other areas in the world.
Identification: Each lichen is typically a single sheath of
tissue ¾-4½" (2-12 cm) wide, though it is wrinkled as to sometimes appear as multiple components. It is fairly loosely
attached. The upper surface is pale gray or brownish when dry, and deep gray or blue-black when wet,
with a black "peppery" crust.
The lower surface is a cream color or light brown. It is found on rocks or trees, often over mosses,
in humid forests.
